Miss Chase
Dear friend
I rec'. your letter in due season. I read it to the ministers in
our association, and also sent it to our Ladies to read in their
sewing soc. Whether any of the ministers will do anything I do not
know. The ladies thought they should be able to send you something.
The truth is that the calls for work and charity are so numerous,
and the objects presented here in such rapid succession that it
is very difficult to meet all the demands. The ladies are at work
very earnestly and accomplish a great deal, and I think our gentlemen
never gave so much as they have of late. I hope you will find help
and be successful in your indeavor to do good to the needy.
Yours,
S. Sweetser
