[Rev.] Mr. Richardson to Lucy or Sarah Chase, June, 1865

Worcester [?] 6/65

Miss Chase--

I was glad to receive your letter & have been making inquiries upon the subject suggested.

We have had several calls for aid of the same kind. Just now the city is Raising $2000. for white Refugees.

T he New England Soc. is auxiliary to the “National Union Commission,” whose special object is aid for the poor whites. Our own S. School we pledged to support one labourer the present year among the Colored.

I think the “Union Commission,” would meet any special calls you might make.

I inclose one of their circulars.

Perhaps we can make a special collection for your particular object, though our Contributions are frequent.

Would it not be well for you to write to the “Spy” & state the case under your name?

There is a disposition to do for all the Needed objects now before the Country. Education, whether of whites or blacks stands first.

We are hoping for a speedy end of the war, & then the work of education in the South will command still more attention

Very truly yrs.
M. Richardsen
