Sarah R. May to Lucy Chase, Leicester, Massachusetts, July 11 [1864?]

My dear Lucy--I am rejoiced to know that you are coming home for the rest & recreation you have so nobly earned & I long to take you both by the hand once more.

As soon as you are sufficiently rested to give us some time will you do so. We are forming a soc. for aiding the Freedmen. Have some money raised & I hope soon to have eno to adopt a teacher--at a meeting last evening a very earnest desire was expressed that you & Sarah should come to a meeting & give us the valuable information you can & add an interest to our movement. I write at the request of the Committee & shall be glad to hear from you if you can come.

I have written to Norfolk but as you may be on your way home will send this to Worcester. I write hastily &with much love aff. Yrs
